Sayonara eventually noticed that we didn’t like red meat and asked grandma not to cook it for us anymore. The family also assumed that we didn’t want pork because one could get gripe suina by eating it. On the one hand, Galina felt like she betrayed her public health convictions (especially as a newly-retired pan flu coordinator) by not correcting their misconception, on the other hand she did not feel like eating any more red meat. Sometimes you just have to compromise with your values.
We are eating carne verde (green meat=white meat) everyday now. Yes, they call it green and its always fried. Always.
